    Jeff Chen

    Executive Director

    Jeff is in the last year of a specialized dual degree MD/MBA between the UCLA School of Medicine and the UCLA School of Management. He is a published author in cancer research, a U.S. patent holder, an experienced educator and public speaker. He is also an Anderson Fellowship Recipient, a Geffen Fellowship Recipient, and a UCLA Wolfen Entrepreneurial Award Recipient. He is passionate about applying consumer technology to medicine in novel ways, and wants to accelerate our understanding of the potential medical uses and side effects of the compounds within cannabis.

    Matt Montee

    Outreach Director

    Dr. Montee is an experienced clinician and primary care provider, holding a Ph.D, M.S., and P.A. from Cornell University. He previously served as the Medical Director for Global Protection Shield, and has worked extensively with Doctors Without Borders, Wilderness Medical Society, Trek Medics Intl, Waves for Water, Surfing Doctors, and Global Stem Cell Network. Dr. Montee is passionate about the clinical applications of cannabinoids as they apply to primary care.

    Kang Hsu

    Science Director

    Kang holds a M.S. in Biochemistry from Harvard University, and has been working at the interface of academia and industry for nearly 2 decades. At the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he developed and helped manage a number of strategic R&D initiatives for organizations such as the United States Air Force (USAF), Baxter, the TATA Group, Mitsubishi, NEC, and Sony. Kang is passionate about bringing his multidisciplinary scientific expertise to advancing the field of cannabinoid science.

    Igor Spigelman

    Advisor

    Dr. Spigelman is a Neuropharmacologist, and a Professor at UCLA, having earned his PhD in Pharmacology from the University of British Columbia. He is a published cannabinoid researcher, and a member of the UCLA Brain Research Institute. His research focuses on the mechanisms and relief of chronic pain, addiction, seizures and other neurodegenerative conditions such as stroke and brain trauma. He is currently spearheading clinical studies investigating the use of novel cannabinoids for pain relief.

    Trent Jones

    Advisor

    Dr. Jones is a chiropractor, entrepreneur, and the founder of the National Calcium Initiative, a nonprofit that created a national calcium consumption model that was written into state laws and the USDA School Breakfast & Lunch Policy. He has over 15 years of experience in permaculture, aquaculture, and aquaponics. Dr. Jones has been working with the families of epileptic children benefitting from cannabidiol (CBD) to expand access and research.

    Elliot is an entrepreneur, data scientist and physicist hailing from Cornell University. He applies cutting-edge visualization, signal processing, and data mining principles to help startups discover and explain value. He joined NICER to help build high-scale, reliable, transparent science in one of the most interesting and neglected fields of pharmacology: cannabinoid science.

    Krystal is a UCLA undergraduate student majoring in Biology and minoring in Entrepreneurship. She is excited about the potential of cannabinoids as a low toxicity, low side-effect, low cost alternative to many pharmaceutical drugs. Krystal is interested in researching the potential of cannabinoids and other plant-derived compounds to complement western medicine

    Chance Plaskett

    Intern

    Chance is a UCLA undergraduate student majoring in Chemical Engineering, with a focus on extractions and process design. He is particularly passionate about sustainable, environmentally-friendly methods of chemical processing. His helped his team to a 3rd place win in the 2015 UCLA Student Entrepreneur Venture Competition. He wants to spur more research into plant-based medicines, which may improve the health of humans around the world.
